The I.FAST project, funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 program, brings together researchers and industry to develop new technologies for particle accelerators. Their recent annual meeting focused on collaboration between academia and industry, particularly regarding cryogenics for large scientific facilities. This successful event will be followed up at the Big Science Business Forum in Trieste, Italy, in October 2024.
The meeting also reviewed progress on I.FAST’s core research areas and eight innovation projects aimed at accelerator sustainability. Looking ahead to its final year, I.FAST will focus on the environmental impact of its research and explore best practices for sustainable design. They also discussed the importance of diversity in fostering innovation.

Overall, the event gathered 120 participants in person and 20 online. (Credit: CERN/I.FAST)
